A couple of weeks ago, Gabby from Art Farm came to Gillen Brewer to visit the Coconut classroom during science. Gabby introduced the group to three different animals: Taco (an ornate horned frog from South America), Leo (a northern leopard frog), and Humphrey (a poisonous toad). After observing and discussing the unique characteristics of each amphibian, the students learned that frogs and toads can be found all around the world. In addition, they learned that each species makes a rather unique sound to communicate. The Coconut Trees had a blast!

Over the past few weeks, the Coconut Trees have been participating in a variety of winter-related activities in the classroom. Before the holiday break, the class read the book, "Ten on a Sled". The silly (and slippery) story tells the tale of a group of animals who go for a wild ride on Caribou's sled. But as they go faster and faster, Seal, Hare, Walrus, and the others all fall off...! The Coconut's enjoyed acting out the story! In addition, the students enjoyed listening to the whimsical tale of Sneezy the Snowman. Sneezy finds the winter season dreadfully cold. As he attempts to stay warm, he finds himself melting over and over again! Throughout the story, the children who rebuild him each time offer clothing to keep him warm! As the winter season continues, the Coconut Trees will continue to explore, study, and play in the snow! |
